Take your site offline, start over or delete it

Your site away for a while, a fresh WordPress, or a site cleaned up, with the site actions.

Everything you do with a whole site at once is in one place: open the site in your project, choose the Settings tab and scroll to Site actions at the bottom. It works the same in production and in staging: you always act on the environment you are looking at.

Take your site offline

For when your site has to go for a while: a rebuild, a break, or something that may no longer be online.

  1. Under Take production offline, click Take offline.
  2. You see which addresses go offline. Click Take offline.

Visitors then see a “temporarily unavailable” page. Every app in that environment stops; your databases, files and backups are kept. While the site is offline, no new version goes live. A red bar shows above your project, and your project list says Offline.

Back online? Click Put back online, in the bar or under Site actions. Everything comes back as it ran.

Good to know:

  • Your plan keeps running while your site is offline.
  • Search engines wait a while. If your site stays offline for weeks, they may drop pages.
  • An owner or admin can do this, also through your AI tool. It asks you first.

Start over with a fresh WordPress

For a WordPress site you want to start completely empty. Only an owner can do this, in the dashboard.

  1. Under Start over with a fresh WordPress, click Start over.
  2. Read what goes and what stays, type your site’s address and click Start over.

Cubli first makes a backup of your site as it is now, and keeps it for 14 days. Your site is then offline for a few minutes and comes back as a fresh WordPress. In the WordPress tab you install it again, just like a new site.

  • Goes: pages, posts and comments, users, plugins, themes and uploads.
  • Stays: the address and your domains, your settings, PHP, variables and Cubli Mail.

If another app uses the same database, starting over is not possible, because that app would lose its data too. Disconnect it first.

Regret it? Within 14 days, Cubli support puts the old site back for you. Mail support@cubli.io.

Delete a site

  1. Under Delete site, click Delete.
  2. For a WordPress site, its own database goes along by default. Type your site’s address to confirm. Want to keep the database? Untick it.

Everything can be restored for 14 days under Project settings, Recently deleted. The database then comes back too.

If it was the last site in your project, your plan keeps running. Want to stop paying? Delete the whole project with Delete this project in Project settings, or cancel the plan. See Choose, change or cancel a plan.
